Embryology of the heart and great vessels Flashcards
1
Q
where does the heart come from?
A
- visceral mesoderm
- (3 weeks)
2
Q
how does the heart reach its final position?
A
- lateral folding ( or embryonic folding) causes heart to be formed in the correct position.
- Cranio-caudal folding
folding in the medial plane results in this type of folding
3
Q
what are the 5 dilatations of the heart tube?
A
- truncus arteriosus
- bulbus cordis
- ventricle
- atrium
- sinus venosus
4
Q
what does the truncus arteriosus form?
A
- aorta
- pulmonary trunk
5
Q
what does the bulbus cordis form?
A
- trabeculated part of the right ventricle
- outflow of both ventricles
6
Q
what does the ventricle form?
A
-trabeculated part of the left ventricle
7
Q
what does the atrium form?
A
- trabeculated part of both atria
8
Q
what does the sinus venosus form?
A
- smooth part of the right atrium
- coronary sinus
9
Q
what happens to the atrium, ventricle and bulbus cordis when the heart tube is folded?
A
- atrium = dorsal and cranial
- ventricle = displaced left
- bulbus cordis = inferiorly, ventrally to the right
