Embryology Flashcards
When does the gut tube start to develop in the embryo?
Day 30
2 layers of germline tissue - endoderm and mesoderm
Connective tissue and hepatoblasts start to develop
How are the endoderm and mesoderm related?
Inner gut layer formed by endoderm cells. Mesoderm wraps around to provide structural and functional support.
What sort of cells does the endoderm contain?
Cells developing into mucosal epithelium, mucosal glands and submucosal glands
What sort of cells does the mesoderm contain?
Lamina propria, gut smooth muscle, blood vessels and serosa
What happens from day 35-39
Duodenum more visible.
Ventral pancreatic bud sprouts from liver bud, dorsal pancreatic bud comes from duodenum.
Which is the smaller bud
Ventral pancreatic bud is smaller than dorsal
What happens from day 40-55
Liver begins to take shape.
GB and biliary ducts are distinguishable.
Duodenum twists, moving ventral pancreas towards dorsal pancreas.
Duodenum gets characteristic C shape
Day 56?
Dorsal and ventral pancreas fuse.
Dorsal pancreatic duct fuses with common bile duct.
Ventral pancreatic duct (uncinate process) is major drainage route into SI
Where is the smooth muscle in the wall of the oesophagus derived from?
The splanchnic mesoderm
