Embryology Flashcards
What does cephalocaudal folding achieve in terms of the developing heart?
Brings the tube into the thoracic region
What does lateral folding achieve in terms of the developing heart?
Creates a heart tube
What are the precursors of the heart tube?
Endocardial tubes
What are the regions of the primitive heart tube from caudal to cranial?
Sinus venosus - atrium - ventricle - bulbous cordis - truncus arteriosus - aortic roots
When does lopping occur with regards to the developing hearts?
Begins day 23, completes day 28
How does looping proceed with regards to the developing heart?
Cephalic portion moves centrally, caudally and to the right (forward, downwards, right)
Caudal portion moves dorsally, cranially and to the left (backwards, upwards, left)
What does looping produce in terms of developing heart?
Transverse pericardial sinus (arteries in front of veins)
After looping how does the atrium communicate with the ventricle?
Via atrioventricular canal
