Embryology Flashcards
Describe the process of development for primary and secondary vesicles?
Neural tube forms first then into primary vesicles, then into the secondary vesicles and finally the postnatal CNS.
What are the primary brain vesicles names?
Prosencephalon (forebrain), Mesencephalon (midbrain), and Rhombencephalon (hindbrain)
What are the Secondary Brain Vesicles?
Telencephalon, Diencephalon, Mesencephalon, Metencephalon, Myelencephalon and Spinal Cord
What Part of the Brain does the Telencephalon form?
The Cortex
Describe the 1st to 3rd brain development for prosencephalon.
Prosencephalon —>Telencephalon —> Cortex
—>Diencephalon —> Thalamus
Describe the 1st to 3rd brain development for mesencephalon.
Mesencephalon —>Mesencephalon (midbrain)
Describe the 1st to 3rd brain development for Rhombencephalon.
Rhombencephalon —>Metencephalon —> Cerebellum
- --> Pons - -->Myelencephalon ---> Medulla
List All Cranial Nerves
Olfactory, Optic, Oculomotor, Trochlear, Trigeminal, Abducens, Facial, Vestibulocochlear, Glossopharyngeal, Vagus, Spinal Accessory, Hypoglossal
Types of “Brain Cells”
Neurons and Glial Cells
Parts of a Neuron
Soma, dendrites, axon, synapse
Axons are ______ directional and neurons are typically _________.
unidirectional, multipolar
Grey matter (pink) consists of ____________
cell bodies and dendrites with ample blood flow (hence really pink, no grey)
The diencephalon becomes what?
Thalassemia, hypothalamus and retina
