EM Radiation Flashcards
How are EM waves produced?
Accelerating charges that move through space
What does accelerating mean?
Changing speed ( going faster OR slower )
What are EM waves made of?
Electric and magnetic fields moving perpendicularly
What is an EM wave an example of?
Transverse wave
Whenever there’s an electric field…
…it creates a magnetic field. They are always perpendicular
Electromagnetic spectrum in order of increasing wavelength:
G X U V I M R
What is the relation of wavelength to frequency in the EM spectrum?
The bigger the wavelength, the smaller the frequency
How many frequencies of visible light are there?
7
R O Y G B I V
What do frequency and amplitude impact in visible light waves?
Frequency- colour ; red is the biggest wavelength
Amplitude - brightness
