How many ELTs do we carry, where are they located?
1, fixed in AC tail.
2, Life Raft survival pack (Aquafix 406 EPIRB)
3, grab bag (either ACR AquaLink 406 GPB PB, or ACR ResQLink 406 GPS PLB)
Are ELTs unique? Can they be swapped between aircraft?
They’re unique. They have an ID paired with each AC. Therefore you can’t swap them.
When is the fixed ELT armed?
It’s always armed
When is the fixed ELT activated?
12G of force, or when selected ON in the cockpit
What frequencies does fixed ELT transmit on?
121.5MHz, 243.0 MHz and 406MHz
Fixed ELT: Which frequency is most accurate, what is it’s lateral accuracy?
406mhz. 100m accuracy when coupled with working FMS, else 3kms.
Fixed ELT: How long is 406mhz broadcast for
24hrs
Fixed ELT: How long do 121.5 and 243mhz broadcast for?
Until the battery dies, which is up to 50hrs

15 - 20km
How do you turn on the life raft ELT (AquaFIX 406)
Hold the self test and GPS test buttons together for 1 second to activate
What is the operating life of the lift raft AND grab bag ELT?
> 24hrs. Battery power indicator implies > 24hrs charge remaining
What receives 406mhz broadcasts?
Satellites. The ELT passes gps coords
Who uses 121.5mhz?
Local emergency services use it for homing
How do you turn on the grab bag ELTs (both variants?)
Put the antenna up, press and hold the power button for 1 second (both of them - power button is in slightly different position).
Grab bag ELT: It re-locates itself every __ minutes and updates position in the 406 broadcast. If an update is not possible, the last known position will be broadcast for __ hours. (AquaLink)
