what is a vagabond?
someone who was homeless and goes to town to town begging and looking for a job.
why were women tended to be more poor?
because they had less job opportunities.
what were the problems of sheep farming?
- sheep farming required less labour as growing crops so unemployment grew
- sheep farming took land that once been used for growing crops
why were bad harvests a problem?
bad harvests reduced food supply meaning production was slower then the population growth. this caused food prices to increase. however, wages were not rising as fast as prices.
what was some problems that come under rent cost on farms?
as the population grew, so did the demand and competition for land. costs of rent on farms increased, some tenets were evicted to make way for sheep farming.
what were young vagabonds labelled as?
they were labelled as beggars, scammers and even criminals.
why did vagabondage concern Elizabethans in power?
they thought that begging would seem lead to stealing. they threatened law and order.
