My dear Mary, we are all happily settled in Bath. Mrs. Clay has come to stay with us, to the benefit and joy of all. Out apartments are quite adequate, being in a street called Camden Place. It’s a lofty, dignified situation, as becomes people of consequence, and it’s much to our satisfaction. Indeed, Bath has more than answered our expectations in every respect, and our house is by far the best in Camden Place, as the drawing rooms have many decided advantages over all the others which I have ever seen or heard of. Be sure to tell Anne to check on the state of my roses; I will be most upset if they are found to be killed by an admiral in His Majesty’s navy. With affection, Elizabeth.
