small tubes that are tunneled through the skin into the renal pelvis to drain the renal pelvis when the ureter is obstructed
Define nephrostomy tubes
the placement of a tube through the urethra into the bladder to drain urine

also known as intermittent catheterization: a one time catheterization for bladder emptying

remains in place over a period of time

used for continuous bladder irrigation or when medication instillation into the bladder is necessary
