Initial Rescue Operations shall be defined as
those activities which can be accomplished by the initial responding fire companies, and which do not require confined space rescue training.
The practice of the fire department has been to initiate rescue operations of persons trapped in stalled elevators in
a timely manner
These procedures - Elevator Rescue SOG - should be used by those personnel who have not
received additional rescue training and when an elevator car has stalled less than 18 inches or less from the landing
Stalled elevator cars greater than ___ from the landing are considered ______________ and require TRT personnel to perform rescue.

the response of the TRT, as well as a ladder truck and engine

1. Upon arrival
determine if the company responsible for elevator maintenance has been called, if not request communications to notify the appropriate company
- Locate

- Communicate
with the trapped passengers and reassure them that efforts are underway for their rescue.
find out if any of the passengers are ill or injured.
If passengers require medical attention, an
EMS unit should be summoned to the scene
Removal of trapped occupants (elevator car at or near a landing - 18’ or less
after locating the car and communicating with the passengers, the following activities can be conducted\

the power supply system of the affected elevator car
mainline disconnect, breakers, fuses etc.
Removal of passengers

Emergency Stop Button to ensure it is not left in the STOP position
