Hydraulic elevators limited to
generally 6 story buildings
Hydraulic elevators raise and lower by
a ram with oil pressure, on older elevators, water pressure
Less modern hydraulic elevators that travel over 6 stories use
cables and counterweights
Equipment rooms for hydraulic elevators are normally located
at the lower level of a building but can be at any floor level or 50 to 100 feet away from the elevator shaft.
The door on the elevator car is referred to as the
Inner or car door and travels with the elevator
The door seen from each floor of the building is referred to as the
hoist way door
Swing hall doors
consists of a hoist way door that is manually opened and a single slide car door that is power operated or a collapsible gate
Single slide doors
power operated single panel doors
Center opening doors
two power operated panels that part simultaneously
Two speed doors
consist of two power operated panels that are geared together. one door moves twice as fast
Gib blocks made of
