What is a compound?
A combination of two or more elements. It does not appear appear on the periodic table but contains the name of two or more elements.
What questions do we ask to identify substances?
- Is the name of the material on the list of elements?
- Is the material a compound, solution, or heterogeneous mixture?

A substance can be classified into one of four classes of mater known as

What is a homogeneous (solution)
A combination of two or more elements or compounds that appears to the eye to be one layer or material.
What is a heterogenous mixture?
A combination of two or more elements or compounds that appears to the eye to be two layer or material.
