different types of rhyme schemes
alternate rhyme, ballade, coupled rhyme, monorhyme, enclosed rhyme
is a poem in which alternating lines rhyme. this would create a rhyme pattern ABAB
alternate rhyme
would follow the rhyme scheme ABABBCBC and have three-eight-line stanzas, with the final stanza being four lines.
ballade
is a poem that is made up of a series of two-lined stanzas known as a rhyming couplet. these poems follow the rhyme scheme AA BB CC.
coupled rhyme
all the lines in a stanza, end with the same rhyme
monorhyme
the first and fourth lines rhyme, as do the second and third-lines. this creates an ABBA pattern.
enclosed rhyme
is an element of poetry that structures the lines into blocks or sections.
stanza
is a one-lined stanza

a stanza with eight lines that is written in iambic pentameter

a stanza in which every line is a different length
