Tempo
How fast or slow a song is
Harmony
The sounding of two or more tones simultaneously; the vertical aspect of music.
Range
-How high or low something is
-The mixture of pitches, from low to high, which a singer/instrument may perform
Instrumentation
The art of composing, orchestrating, or arranging for an instrumental ensemble.
Timbre (TAMBER)
Quality of sound/tone. EX. harsh voice, pretty guitar
Texture
Music can sound thick or thin. As in, many instruments or very few instruments
Acapella
Music performed only with voices - no instruments
Tone
-Quality of the timbre
-Compare singers singing the National anthem
Lyrics
Active listening….may reveal things you might miss
Crescendo
Music gradually gets louder
Decrescendo
Gradually softer
Melody/Theme
The main notes that the listener follows. Usually sung, or the main theme of a piece
Passive listening
Not really listening. Hear the tunes, the words, but fail to listen to the parts or the music as a whole
Active listening
Listen to each aspect of the music. Lyrics, beat, instruments, effects, hidden things
Chromatic
Ascending or descending by half steps. No note skipping
Modulation
The process of changing from one key to another within a composition
