What are two types of Fiction?
Novel and Short Story
What is fiction?
A story made up or imagined in the mind of the writer.
What is a novel?
A long work of fiction, with a complex plot, many characters, and more than one theme.
what is a short story?
A short work of fiction, approx. 1-25 pages, usually can be read quickly.
What is a Genre?
Categories into which literary works are grouped; fiction, non-fiction, poetry, drama.
What is Characterization?
The way people who take part in the action of the story are created by the author.
What are the two types of Characterization?
Direct and Indirect
What is Direct characterization?
The author describes exactly what a character is like.
What is Indirect Characterization?
The author implies what a character is like by what he says, does, or what others say about him.
What are characters?
People who take part in the action of the story.
what is a protagonist?
The main character who remains the same.
What is an antagonist?
The opposing force usually the “bad guy.”
What is a static or flat character?
A character who remains the same.
What is a dynamic or round character?
A character who changes or grows.
What is the setting?
Its the time and place where action occurs.
