Soliloquy
A solitary speech in which the character is speaking to himself or herself
Static character
Characters that do not change throughout the course of a work
Dynamic character
Complex and undergo development, sometimes sufficiently to surprise the reader
Aside
A character breaks the fourth wall to interact with the audience
Stage directions
In parenthesis or italics to give extra information to the actors
Antagonist
A person who actively opposes or is hostile to someone or something; an adversary
Protagonist
The leading character or one of the major characters in a drama, movie, novel, or other fictional text
Dialogue
A conversation between two or more characters
Monologue
A solitary speech in which the actor is speaking uninterruptedly and the other characters may not be listening
Allegory
A story with a double meaning
Compares two unlike things using like or as
Simile
A statement that compares two things that are not alike. Doesn’t use like or as
Metaphor

Giving human characteristics to nonhuman like things

Relating text to someone or something that is known
