Define Setting
The time and location in which a story takes place.
What are the five things that may be included in a setting?
Place, Time, Weather Conditions, Social Conditions, Mood or atomosphere
What are the elements of a plot?
exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, denouement
Define Exposition
First thing in the plot, getting exposed to characters, setting and intinal Conflict.
Define Rising Action
The events leading up to the climax of the story.
Define Climax
The peak of tension
Define Character (two meanings)
The person in a work of fiction and the characteristics of a person.
What are the 2 types of characters?
Flat and Round
Define POV
The perspective from which the story is told.
What are the 3 types of POVs?
First person, Third person, Omniscient.
Define Conflict
It is the opposition of forces which ties one incident to another and makes the plot move.
What are the 2 types of Conflict?
Internal, External
What are the 4 kinds of Conflict?
Human vs. Human
Human vs. Nature/Circumstances
Human vs. Society
Human vs Self
Define Theme
The stories controlling idea or its central insight.
What types of figures of speech could a writer use to get across the theme?
symbol, allusion, simile, metaphor, hyperbole, or irony
