Elements Key to Life Flashcards
What are the six elements key to life? What is one biological molecule where they can be found?
Carbon (carbohydrate), hydrogen (lipids), nitrogen (nucleic acid), oxygen (proteins), phosphorus (phospholipids), and sulfur (protein).
How do you find protons, neutrons, and electrons from the periodic table?
The atomic number, which the elements are organized by, tells you the number of protons and neutrons. The atomic number can be subtracted from the atomic mass number to find the number of neutrons.
What are three biomolecules that use phosphate? What role does it serve?
Phosphate is in phospholipids, to negatively charge one side, making it hydrophilic and enabling it to keep the cell together and guarded. DNA, where it makes up part of the backbone. And ew I can’t think of a third lol “science”
