Lines
Straight lines parallel to the horizon that moves from left to right
Width, distance, calmness, and stability
Horizontal Lines
Straight up and down lines that are moving in space without any slant
Height, dignity poise and strength
Vertical lines
Bend and change directions gradually
Conveys the feeling of comfort and ease
Curved Lines
Straight line that slant in any direction except horizontal and vertical
Movement, vitality and animation
Diagonal lines
Lines found in nature
Irregular curves and often fluid

Organic Lines
Forms that are two dimensional or three dimensional
Shapes
It involves the outer and inner portion, the emptiness and area between, around, above, below or within objects
Space
The subject of the piece itself
Positive space
Empty spaces the artist has created around, between and within the subjects
Negative space
How objects and surface feel, and is most associated with the sense of touch or tactility
Roughness or smoothness
Texture
Associated with coldness and warmth
Elements that results from the light waves reflected from and enters our eyes
Color
Specific color in the color spectrum
Hue
Light of a hue
Tint
Dark value of a hue
Shade
Strength or purity of a color
Intensity
Lightness or darkness of a hue
Value
Property of color that makes certain color combinations aesthetically pleasant and creates harmonious contrast
Color Harmonies
Colors that opposite each other
Complementary
Use colors that are next to each other
Analogous color scheme
A variation of complementary color scheme
Split complement
Use color that evenly spaced around the color wheel
Triadic
The visual weight of the elements of the composition
It brings the feeling of stability and comfort
Balance
Arranging elements on either side of the center of a compositon to in an equally weighted manner
Symmetry
Unequal weight on both sides of a compositon
Asymmetry
Elements are equally spaced around a central point
Radial
The relationship between the different sized components within one whole composition
Proportion
Arrangement of opposite elements and effects
Contrast
When the artist creates an area of the composition that is visually dominant and commands the viewers attention
Emphasis
When the artist uses the elements of art such that they move the viewers eye around and within the image
Movement
When several elements of art are used to get the attention of the audience and guide the viewers focus through around the artwork
Variety
Use to make the artwork seem active
Repetiton
The uniform repetition of any elements of art or any combination thereof
Pattern
The repetition of design,line or other elements of art in a non-uniform but organize way
