7) Wait for MOM and devise an SSoWP (Safe System of Work Plan)
8) Nominate 2 competent persons i.e. doctor, police, staff
9) How/where to cross least amount of lines to reach position of safety
Who authorises a detrainment
1) Signaller and Control make a joint decision/authority to form a plan
2) MOM authorises the detrainment on site
Role on Control in a detrainment
1) Make joint decision with signaller.
2) Control will send out the RIO, MOM, TOLO, Support Team and any other member of staff competent in assisting the evacuation.
Suitable places to stop a train to undertake a controlled detrainment and places to avoid
Suitable: Stations, Open air, Tunnels with egress, Trains
Avoid: Tunnels, bridges, Via Ducts, Junctions, Limited Clearance, Embankments
Occasions AC traction current may need isolating

Actions required to control customer safety during a detrainment
0) Secure train
1) Make regular PA

4) Emergency protection (if unable to contact signaller)
5) Devise an SSoWP and stick to it
6) Get other competent people to assist
7) Decide best method of evacuation (least number of lines)

Typical reasons for a controlled detrainment
OLE failure/Emergency switch off
Train failure/stranded
Track defects or obstructions
Fire on train
Who will be selected to make up the support team
TOLO – Train operating liaison officer
MOM – Mobile operations manager
RIO – Railway incident officer
Drivers, platform staff, police officers, doctors, customer service staff etc.
How to identify vulnerable customers and provide assistance
VIP/Blind people – white stick
Deaf people – Sign language / by talking to them
MIP – Wheel chair, walking sticks
Children – by them selves
Pregnant women – Badge / Obvious
-Use the training given to provide correct assistance, ask how they would like to be helped. Ask other members of staff to assist.

Actions to take to prevent an uncontrolled detrainment
Make good PAs and avoid words such as “remain calm”.
Inform passengers that it’s safer to remain on the train, and risks of leaving the train.
