2
Q

At the anode if neither are halides what is th equation and what happens

Q

Describe molten electroysis for Al2O3

A

Aluminum is attracted to the cathode and is discharged and given 3 electrons it froms a sedement at the bottom of the solution.
Oxygen is discharged and rises and bubbles to the top of the solution and transefres electrons to aluminum becoming discharged.

8
Q

What are the 2 rules of aqeous electroloysis and what is produced

A

First rule is that at the cathode the weaker cation will discharge so if you had potasssium chloride hydrogen gas would discharge as it is less reactive
Second rule is that at the anode the halide will always disshcarge but is no halide is present hydroxide or oxygen gas will be bubbled away
