Measure of ability to store energy in an electric field. Units F.

How does a dielectric work?
A
Molecules align their dipoles to produce a polarised material when an electric field is applied. Dielectric effect opposes applied electric field and reduces field strength but increases capacitance.

A
The total electric flux out of a surface is equal to the net charge enclosed by that surface
