Electrostatic Fields of Force Flashcards
What does Coulomb’s law state?
Coulomb’s law states that the force between 2 point charges is directly proportional to the product of the charges and inversely proportional to the distance between them squared
What is the equation of force between 2 point charges?
F = 1/4πε° * Qq/r^2
What is the electrical field strength of a charged particle?
The electrical field strength is the force per unit charge on a charge at that point
How do you calculate the electrical field strength of a charged particle?
E = 1/4πε° * Q/r^2
What direction are positive charge field lines?
They are repulsive, so they are outwards
What direction are negative charge field lines?
They are attractive, so they are inwards
What is electrical potential?
Electrical potential is the work done per unit charge in bringing that charge from infinity to that point
What is the electrical potential at infinity?
Electrical potential at infinity is 0
How do you calculate electrical potential?
V = 1/4πε° * Q/r
How do you calculate electrical potential energy?
PE = 1/4πε° * Qq/r
What is the equation of energy conservation for electrostatic fields of forces?
mv^2/2 = 1/4πε° * Qq/r
What is an equipotential surface?
A surface at which every point of the surface has the same potential, there no work is done travelling between it.
