Electrostatic Flashcards
Everything
Types of charges that we have
Positive and negative charge
How is an object positively charged or negatively charged?
An object is positively charged when electrons are lost and is negatively charged when electrons are gained
What do charged electrons release?
They exert an electrostatic force on each other and on objects that are neutral
Forces between charges?
Like charges repel and unlike charges attract
What is an electrostatic force
Forces that is exerted by charged objects on other objects
What is the unit of charge, symbol and charge if an electron?
Unit of charge: coulomb(C)
Symbol:Q
Charge of electrons: -1,6 × 10 to the power of negative 19
1 C= 6,25×10 to the power of 18
3 ways in which charge can be distributed?
Friction
Contact
Induction
Explain what happens at Friction?
When an object is rubbed with another object, electrons are physically rubbed off one object unto the other. The second object wil gain electrons and become negatively charged whereas the first object will become positively charged
What is Triboelectric charging
A type of contact electrification in which certain materials become electrically charged after they came into contact with different materials and are then separated
Explain contact
If a charged object touches an uncharged object they will share their charges according to their size
What are polar molecules?
Molecules that have both a positive and negative side due to nature of their atoms
