Electrons Flashcards
1
Q
Thermionic emission
A
When a metal is heqted to give electrons enough energy to escape
2
Q
Mass of an electron
A
9.1x10^31kg
3
Q
Energy of an electron
A
1.6x10^19
4
Q
How do you accelerate an electron
A
- connect a cathode and an anode to a cell at 5000v
- connect a heating device behind the cathode
- find the speed of an electron using the equation, E = voltage/distance
- if an electron goes through 5000 volts, the energy is 5000 electrons for example
- we use the electric field to accelerate the electron
5
Q
how do you find the wavelength using De Broglie’s experiment
A
- use the voltage and multiply the coulombs by the voltage
- use P = mv and multiply the mass by the voltage to find the final momentum
- use de Broglie’s equation (wavelength = h/p) to find the wavelength
