Electronics Flashcards
Sensors (input components)
A sensor is affected the conditions around it. Gives input signal to electronic system
Examples of sensors
Light dependent resistors
Thermistors
Piezoelectric sensors
Switches (control/process components)
Reason:allows or prevents electrical power from flowing round a circuit
For any device that needs power to turn on and off
Control/Process components examples
Switch
Resistor
Programmable components
Thermistor (input component)
Reason: Resistance of it changes as temperature changes. Change in resistance can be used as an input.
For fridges, freezers, centrak heating systems to maintain temperatures
Piezoelectric sensor (input component)
Reason: can change mechanical motion or force into electrical energy- it can produce an electrical pulse from pressure, such as by hitting it
For igniting lighters, portable camping stoves and in microphones (where soundwaves create pressure that makes the electrical pulse)
Resistor (process/control component)
Reason: To limit/control the flow of current- hace a tolerance of how much current they allow in a circuit and resists current flow if it goes out of tolerance)
For all electrical products - it helps to control the flow of current and protects delicate components bring overloaded. Prevents damage to components.
Programmable components (process/control device)
Reason: chip that can be programmed to make decisions based on an input
For most modern electrical products (e.g washing machines are programmed to work when the drum door is shut and the on/off button is pressed)
Output components examples
Loudspeaker
Motor
Light-emitting diode
Loudspeaker (output device)
Reason: uses pulses of electricity to move an electromagnet that vibrates to create a sound
For speakers, headphones and radios
Motor (output device)
Reason: converts power into rotary motion that can turn a spindle linked to gears or wheels to make them move
For cars and trains
Light emitting diode (output device)
Reason: gives out light when electricity is passed through it. long lasting low power light
For torches, lamps, power indicators
Buzzers (output components)
Makes a sound
For in a sensing device to notify people of a warning or something that needs their attention
