A

one elctrode inside the cell - measure mef between inside (more negative) and outside cell

Q

extracellular recording

A

both electrodes outside the muscle fibre - measure emf between 2 sites outside the fibres. At rest: no difference. Activating an action potential at one electrode will create a charge difference between the electrodes. It will reach the other electrode and will be equal in magnitude but opposite sign.
