Electromagnetism Flashcards
What is Lenz’s law?
The induced emf is always in such a direction to oppose the change that cause it
(doesn’t want you to leave but doesn’t want it here)
What is the motor affect?
When a current carrying conductor is placed in a magnetic field and it experiences a force
What is Faraday’s law?
When the magnetic flux or the magnetic field changes with time the electromotive force is produced
What is Eddy current?
Type of current that is induced when a metal plate experience a change in magnetic flux
What is a transformer?
A thing that allows generated Ac voltage to either by increased or decreased before it’s used
radius formula?
r = mv/Bq
What does B sand for?
Magnetic field
What is magnetic flux?
Total magnetic field passing though an area
What is the motion in electric field?
Motion is parabolic
What is the motion in magnetic field?
Motion is circular
Difference between magnetic and electric field
Electric field - exert a force on a charge along the field
Magnetic field - exert a force that is already moving
Compare magnetic and electric motion
Magnetic - always perpendicular to velocity, it will produce circular trajectory
Electric - Always directed towards the center, produce parabolic trajectory
What is DC motor?
A device which converts electrical energy into mechanical energy
What is an electrostatic charge?
Charged object that produces an electric field
What is an Electric Field?
Region in which a charge will experience a force (Attraction or repulsion)
Magnet Prac
It aligns with Faraday and Lenz’s law since it shows that the induced emf depends on the rate of change of magnetic field
Big set up prac
The force and current in the conductor is directly proportional and it is consistent with teh formula F = BIL
Metal down the plastic pipe
It’s normal when it goes down the plastic pipe however when it goes down to the metal pipe, eddy current has been induced from the change in magnetic flux
2 coil transformer prac
The U core laminator is more efficient then the T core since it’s 1 thing whereas the T core is 2 little parts and 1 big part that creates higher energy loss due to the change in magnetic flux converts energy to heat making it decrease it’s efficiency
