16
Q

How do you make an electromagnet?

A

Using a piece of coiled wire with a current flowing through it.

17
Q

How does the strength of an electromagnet change ?(1)

A

The further from the electromagnet, the weaker the force .

18
Q

What is a domain?

A

Little groups of atoms that act like tiny magnets .Each little group of atoms is called a domain.

19
Q

Why does a normal piece of iron, nickel cobalt not seem to be magnetic?

A

Because all the domains are pointing in different directions, cancelling each other out.

20
Q

What happens when a piece of iron is magnetised?

A

The domains line up, no longer cancelling each other out .

21
Q

How can you make a magnet?

A
  1. )You can magnetise a piece of iron by stroking it (You have to stroke it in the same direction, so that all the domains lineup )
  2. )you can magnetise a piece of iron by leaving it next to another magnet for awhile (Eventually the domains move around so they are lined up)
22
Q

How can you de-magnetise a magnet?

A

By getting the domains to point in different directions

  1. )heating the magnet (I know why)
  2. )hammer a magnet(vibrations de-align the domains cancelling each other out)
23
Q

How can you NOT remove magnetism?

A

NOT by cutting it up. If you break a magnet into two, the 2 halves would be both magnets, each with the North and South Pole. This is because all the domains would be still aligned.

24
Q

FOCUS ON MAGNETIC FIELD QUESTION 2.
QUESTION D.).
IN SCIENCE ONE DRIVE.

A

…write answer to question once found out .

25
Q

What do you coils do in electromagnets?

A

The small magnetic field is caused by the coils, altogether make a stronger magnetic field, resulting in a larger magnetic force.

26
Q

What is an electromagnet?

A

A magnet that has a core ,sometimes made out of a magnetic material, a current flowing through the wire and coils of electrical wire.

27
Q

An iron core will make an electromagnet is stronger because…

A

Iron is a magnetic material and concentrates the magnetic field

28
Q

What’s a solenoid?

A

A solenoid Is a type of electromagnet. The purpose of a solenoid is to generate a controlled magnetic field through a coil wound into a tightly packed helix.
