Electromagnetic Spectrum Flashcards
Electromagnetic spectrum
Vast arrangement of electromagnetic waves in relation to their wavelengths
Wavelength
The distance between my two corresponding points that are adjacent on a wave
Radiation
Transfer of energy through matter of space such as electromagnetic waves, such as visible light and infrared waves
Electromagnetic radiation
Radiation consisting of electric and magnetic waves that travel at the speed of light
Radio waves
Electromagnetic waves with long wavelengths and low frequencies
Microwaves
Are between radio waves in the electromagnetic spectrum
Light waves
Provide us with visible light spectrum, all the colors we see
Infrared waves
Electromagnetic waves with longer wavelengths than visible light
X-rays
Very high energy and are used in medical and astronomical applications
Ultraviolet waves
Have a shorter wavelength than visible light
Red shift
Change in wavelength that allows us to determine if an object is moving toward Ilya or away from us
Gamma rays
Very high energy and no mass or charge; emitted by a nucleus of a radioactive atom
