Electromagnetic Spectrum Flashcards
What is the electromagnetic spectrum and how does it affect us?
The electromagnetic spectrum includes all radio waves. The different components can damage us in different ways, as well to help us.
Wavelengths
Wavelengths is the distance between two waves.
What is Electromagnetic radiation?
Electromganetic radiation is the waves that carry energy through matter or space.
What is the medium?
A medium is a type of matter in which a mechanical wave travels thrpugh.
What is amplitude? What is it a part of?
Amplitude is the maximum distance the particles of a medium will move from their rsting point. Amplitude is used in AM radios or Amplitude Modulation.
Heat
Eneegy that is transfered from one object to another due to the temperature change.
Law
An explanatioin that always implies uder the same circumstances which is based on large volumes.
What are Radio Waves?
Radio waves are the wide range of electromagnetic waves and have the longest wavelengths and lowest frequencies.
What are Microwaves?
Microwaves have more enrgy than other and have short wavelengths with high frequenices.
What are Infrared waves?
Infrared waves are not visible to the human eye, but you can feel the heat on your skin. Infrared waves is light with the longest wavelengths.
What is Visible Light?
Visible light is the only wavelength visible to the hunman eye. They are a narrow range of wavelengths.
What is Ultraviolet Light?
Ultraviolet light is the range of light waves that have shorter wavelengths than violet light. This light has shorter waavelengths then visible light.
What is X Ray light?
X rays are high energy electromagnetic waves and have enough energy to pass through soft things but dense things like bones.
What are Gamma Rays?
Gamma rays are the most energetic of all wavelengths and can pass through anything, even bones.
