Q

What is a changed magnetic field always accompanied by

A

It is always accompanied by a changed electric field and a changed electric field is always accompanied by a changed magnetic field. We say they are regenerating fields (to create and re-produce)

Q

The electromagnetic spectrum

A
  • Radio waves, microwaves, infrared, visible light, ultraviolet, X-rays, gamma - rays
  • radio waves usage the longest waves but least frequency (F down, E down)
  • gamma rays have the shortest waves but most frequency (F up, E up)
  • F is directly proportional to E

Q

Properties of electromagnetic waves

A
  • moves at the same speed as light (3 x 10^8)
  • can move through a vacuum
  • are transverse waves wherein the electric and magnetic field are perpendicular to each other and to the direction of movement and are caused when electric charges accelerate
  • transfers energy from one place to another
  • all obey the wave equation, c =fh
  • can also move through a medium
