What is an electromagnet?
A
Metal made into a magnet by the passage of electric current through a coil surrounding it

What’s the motor effect?
A
When a current carrying wire is put between magnetic poles, the two magnetic fields affect one another, causing a force on the wire. This can cause the wire to move = the motor effect.

What is a spilt ring commutator?
A
An electrical switch that reverses the current direction through the coil every half turn.

What is electromagnetic induction?
A
The creation of a voltage in a wire which is experiencing a change in magnetic field.
