Q
What is the definition of term standard electrode potential?
A
The e.m.f of a half cell compared with a standard hydrogen half cell.
Temp at 298K
Solution conc at 1 moldm-3
Pressure 1 ATM

Q
Suggest 2 advantages of using methanoic acid as a fuel in a fuel cell rather than hydrogen.
A
- Hydrogen is explosive
- Methanoic acid gives greater voltage
- Methanoic acid is liquid and hydrogen is gas, therefore HCOOH is easier to store and transport.
2
Q
Explain why some feasible reactions may not actually take place.
A
- The conditions may not be standard. E.g solution conc not at 1 moldm-3, temp not 298K
- due to high activation energy/ slow rate
