Electrocardiograms Flashcards
Electrocardiogram?
Measures electrical activity of the heart to detect cardiac problems.
Do ECGs detect the charge on the inside or outside of the cells?
Outside.
ECG shows how the _________ _____ moves during each heart beat.
Depolarization Wave.
Cardiac Arrhythmia?
Extra or skipped heartbeats.
Lead 2 connects…
The left leg as positive to the right arm’s negative.
Which electrode is used as a neutral lead?
Right Leg.
Chest Leads set up to detect…
Any wave of positive charge going toward them.
Leads set up in the transverse plane of the heart.
Chest leads.
aVR?
Augmented vector right.
Where’s the aVR placed?
Right Arm.
Where’s the aVL placed?
Left Arm.
The aVR and aVL are placed 30 degrees from…..
The Horizontal Line.
aVF?
Augmented vector foot.
aVR, aVL, and aVF detect ______ deflection going toward them.
Positive.
Bipolar limb leads are labeled…
Lead 1
Lead 2
Lead 3
How does Lead 1 work?
Use right arm as negative pole and left arm as positive pole. Forming a vector that goes to the right.
How does Lead 2 work?
Use right arm as negative pole and left leg as positive pole. Forming a vector that goes to the plus 60 degree mark.
How does Lead 3 work?
Use left arm as negative pole and left leg as positive pole. Forming a vector that goes to the plus 120 degree mark.
QRS Complex?
Combination of three of the graphical deflections seen on a typical electrocardiogram.
It corresponds to the depolarization of the right and left ventricles of the human heart and contraction of the large ventricular muscles.
