Electricity test revision Flashcards
relationship between current, power and voltage
power = current x voltage
P=IV
relationship between time, current, energy transferred and voltage
energy transferred = current x voltage x time
E=IVt
Which is more appropriate for particular applications such as domestic lighting: series or parallel circuits?
Parallel circuits are more appropriate for things like lighting, especially string/fairy lights. This is because, in a series circuit, if one component broke, the whole circuit stops working, whereas in a parallel, the circuit will bypass the broken component but still work
What can be used to indicate the presence of a current in a circuit
Lamps and LEDs
Relationship between current, time and charge
Charge = current x time
Q=It
What is current
The rate of flow of charge
What is electric current in solid metallic conductors
A flow of negatively charged electrons
Relationship between resistance, voltage and current
Voltage = current x resistance
What is voltage
The energy transferred per second
What is the volt
The energy per coulomb of charge (joules per coulomb)
Relationship between voltage, charge and energy transferred
energy transferred = charge x voltage
E=QV
