Electricity Revision Flashcards
What is the circuit symbol for a light bulb/lamp?

What is the circuit symbol for a battery?

What is the circuit symbol for a cell?

What is the circuit symbol for a resistor?

What is the circuit symbol for a motor?

What is the circuit symbol for a voltmeter?

What is the circuit symbol for an ammeter?

What is used to measure voltage?
A voltmeter
What is used to measure current?
An ammeter
What is resistance measured in?
Ohms
What is voltage measured in?
Volts (V)
What is current measure in?
Amps
What is the circuit symbol for a LDR (Light dependent resistor)?

What is the circuit symbol for an LED (Light emitting diode)?

What is the circuit symbol for a thermistor?

How does a thermistor work?
As the temperature goes up the resistance goes down (TURD)
or as the temperature decreases the resistance increases
How does an LDR work?
As the light level increases the resistance decreases (LURD) or as the brightness increases the resistance decreases (BURD).
Alternatively as the light level decreases the resistance will increase
What is the energy change for a motor?
Electrical to sound/kinetic/heat
What is the energy change for a loudspeaker?
electrical to sound
What is the energy change for a solar cell?
light to electrical
What is the energy change for a microphone?
sound to electrical
What is an input device?
A device that changes some form of energy into electrical energy
What is an output device?
A device that changes electrical energy into another form of energy
What are the process devices called?
Logic gates
AND, OR and NOT
What is a truth table?
A table with all the possible input and outputs for a system
What is the truth table for a NOT gate?

What is the truth table for an AND gate?

What is the truth table for an OR gate?

What is the difference between a series and a parallel circuit?
A series circuit consists of one loop whereas a parallel circuit is made up of two or more loops.
What is ohm’s law?
V = I x R
Voltage = Current x Resistance
What does it mean if a component is ohmic?
It follows ohms law
What does it mean if a component is non-ohmic?
It does not follow ohm’s law.
As the temperature increase, the resistance increases. There is not a fixed relationshio between resistance and voltage.
1 milliamp is equal to …
0.001 Amps
1 kilovolt (kV) is equal to…
1000 Volts
If you find the gradient of a voltage vs current graph what are you calculating?
The resistance
