electricity review Flashcards
what happens in a cell to create voltage?
a chemical reaction causes electrons to gather in one location and creates a pull/ pressure to move away from each other
how does voltage affect the current in a circut?
the more voltage, the more current, bc a bigger amount of push makes the electrons want to move faster
what is the term resistance and how does it affect the current in a circuit?
resistance decreases the push/ pressure of electrons and it causes the current to decrease
whats the term current and whats 2 ways to increase current in a circuit?
- current is flow of electrons
- add higher voltage
- decrease resistance
compare conducers/ insulators in terms of resistance
- conductors easily allow electrons to move
- insulators resist the flow of electrons
what are the rules for calculating voltage in series vs in parallel cells?
- series you add it together
- parallel it stays the same all around
what happens to the current of a circuit when you add lamps in parallel?
current increases bc more pathways
how do you connect a voltmeter? an ammeter?
- voltmeter connected in parallel across device
- ammeter connected in series within circuit
is mA to A times or divided by 1000?
divided
