Electricity Ohms Law Flashcards
What is ohm’s law
Ohm’s law states that current is directly proportional to potential difference and indirectly proportional to resistance in a circuit during constant temperature
What is a cell
Electrical component in a circuit that provides electrical pressure (voltage)
What is current
Current is the rate of flow of electrical charge
What is the formula for current
I=V/R
What measures volts in an electrical circuit
A voltmeter which has infinite resistance
What measures current in an electrical system
An ammeter which has zero resistance
What happens to resistance in series
Rs= R1 + R2 +R3
What happens to voltage in series
Vext= Vr1 + Vr2 + Vr3
Potential difference in series is shared equally proportionally
What happens to current in series
It= I1 = I2 = I3
Current in a series circuit is equal
What happens to voltage in parallel circuits
Voltage across a parallel circuit remains the same
What happens to current in parallel circuit
Current in parallel circuits is divided
What happens to resistance in parallel circuits
Resistance is shared inversely across the circuit
