Electricity & Magnetism Flashcards
Magnetic field
A region in space where a magnet or ferromagnetic material will experience a (non-contact) force
Law of conservation of charge
The net charge of an isolated system remains constant during any physical process
Law of Charge Quatisation
All charges in the universe consist of an integer multiple of the charge on one electron
Potential difference
The potential difference across the ends of a conductor as the energy transferred per unit of electric charge following through it
Emf
The maximum energy provided by a battery per unit charge passing through it
Electric current
The rate of flow of charge
Resistance
The ratio of the potential difference across a resistor to the current in the resistor
Ohm’s Law
The potential difference across a conductor is directly proportional to the current in the conductor at constant temperature
Coulomb
One coulomb is defined as the charge transferred in a conductor in one second if the current is one ampere
