Electricity Definitions Grade 9 Flashcards
What is an Ammeter?
An ammeter is a device used to measure the amount of electrons flowing at a given location, it is connected in series.
What is an Ampere?
An Ampere is the unit for flow of electrons per second.
What is a Battery?
A battery is a source for electrons, it is the start of the circuit.
What is Current?
Current is electrons flowing.
What is a Fuse?
A Fuse is a safety device in a circuit that has a metal conductor with a low melting point, if the current gets too high the fuse melts.
What is a Kilowatt-Hour
A Kilowatt-Hour is the amount of Kilowatts(1000 watts) used in one hour.
What is a load?
A load is a device that converts electrical energy into another form of energy.
What is an Ohm?
An Ohm is the unit for resistance.
What is potential difference?
Potential Difference is the potential amount of energy lost by an electron between two points.
What is Resistance?
The degree to which a substance opposes the flow of current through it.
What is a Switch?
A switch is method to control a circuit by opening or closing the circuit to allow electrons to flow.
What is a voltmeter?
A voltmeter is a device that is used to measure the amount of energy lost by and electron between two points, it is connected in parallel.
What is a volt?
A volt is the unit for potential difference.
What is Charging by Contact?
Charging by contact is when a charged object touches a neutral object and that causes electrons to move to balance it and leaves the neutral object charged.
What is Efficiency?
Efficiency is how good something is at translating electricity into another form of energy.
