Electricity and Circuts Flashcards
In what shape does electricity travel through a circuit?
It travels in closed loop’s or circles. all the wires must be attached for the circuit to work.
what will happen when a circuit is open?
None of the appliances will work, as there is a gap in the circle.
How does a switch work?
When the switch is open the link is broken, meaning that no electrons can pass through the wires continuously. when it is closed, everything is connected and flowing.
What happens when a bulb burns out?
The tiny wire inside the bulb has worn out, making a gap in the circuit. This means that the electrons can not pass through the bulb.
When do electrical appliances stop working?
When electricity stops flowing through them and the circuit.
How does a light bulb work?
A small wire inside the bulb gets very hot when electricity runs through it. this makes the wire glow, producing a bright light.
What is electricity?
It is a type of energy that can be built up in one place, or flow from one place to another.
What are the two types of electricity?
There are two main types, static and current.
What is static electricity?
It is electricity that does not move at all. it stays in one place. it is created when materials rub together.
What is current electricity?
It is electricity that flows from one place to another. It is otherwise called electricity.
What causes electricity?
It is caused by the electrons that surround the nucleus of an atom.
How is static electricity formed?
When two or more items rub against each other and they switch around electrons.
What happens if a material gains electrons?
It will gain a negative charge.
what happens when a material looses electrons?
It gains a positive charge.
How is lightning created?
When electrons move within a cloud during a large storm.
What happens when two like charges come together?
They repel each other
