electricity Flashcards
how are ammeters placed in a circuit and what is an important property of it?
in series and has 0 resistance
how are voltmeters placed in a circuit and what is an important property of it?
in parallel and have infinity resistance
what is Ohm’s law?
so long as physical conditions remain constant, such as temperature, the current through an Ohmic conductor is directly proportional to the potential difference across it
what is an NTC thermistor?
a negative temperature coefficient- resistance decreases as the temperature goes up
what is a superconductor?
a material that is cooled below the critical temperature (transitional temperature) their resistivity disappears entirely
what is a potential divider?
a circuit with a voltage source and a couple of resistors in series
the P.D. is split across the resistors in ratio of their resistance
what is potential difference?
work done per unit charge
