What are the classifications for low and high voltage?
Low Voltage: greater than 50 volts but not exceeding 1000 volts AC or 1500 volts DC.
High Voltage: Anything greater than low voltage I.e. greater than 1000 volts AC or 1500 volts DC
What are the four electrical causes of fire?
- Short circuits caused by insulation failure.
- Overheating of cables and equipment due to overloading, lack of ventilation etc.
- Ignition of flammable gases, vapours or dust.
- Ignition of combustible substances by electro-static discharges.

All current carrying parts should be treated as LIVE until confirmed DEAD by an AUTHORISED PERSON from the electrical company.
A SAFETY DOCUMENT will be issued allowing work in a specific area.
In an emergency an AUTHORISED PERSON on site may issue verbal instructions with MUST be followed.
Fire service personnel should NEVER climb overhead lines supports without approval of AUTHORISED PERSON
