Electricity ⚡️ Flashcards
Name the 5 components of an ELECTRICAL circuit:
> Cell > Wire > Variable resistor > Bulb > Resistor
What is the effect of increasing the flow of CURRENT?
It makes the bulb brighter
What is ELECTRICAL current measured in?
In Amperes, or Amps (A)
How do we measure CURRENT?
By using an Ammeter
What is the mirror for on an Ammeter?
The mirror is to get an exact reading. The reflection helps us to read it more accurately
Why do most non metals seem to be insulators?
Because they DO NOT CONDUCT electricity
Give a conclusion on a CONDUCTOR:
A CONDUCTOR allows electrical current to flow through it
Give a conclusion on an INSULATOR:
An INSULATOR does not allow electrical current to flow through it
What do you need for an electric current to flow?
A COMPLETE circuit
What is a series circuit?
In a simple series circuit, everything is connected in one loop across the terminals of the battery. So there are no points where the current can split or join (junctions). Circuits are always drawn using straight lines
When we talk about CURRENT flowing, what do we mean?
When we talk about current flowing we say that current flows out of the positive terminal of the cell and back into the negative terminal
Describe CONVENTIONAL current:
CONVENTIONAL current flows from the positive pole to the negative pole. It has the SAME value at any point in the circuit
How do the electrons move in a simple series circuit?
Electrons flow from the NEGATIVE pole to the POSITIVE pole. This is the opposite direction to CONVENTIONAL current
How is VOLTAGE measured?
VOLTAGE is measured by connecting the voltmeter across ( or in parallel with ) the component
What is VOLTAGE measured in?
VOLTAGE is measured in volts, and the symbol for this is (V)
