Electricity Flashcards
What is a divide
Something that changes1 type of energy into another
What is a sorce
Where so hyping comes or starts from
WhAt is output energy
Energy after it has gone through a device
What are components
Different parts of something
What is an unbroken pathway
When the pathway is closed meaning unbroken and complete the pathway is called a circuit and it is when everything is joined and is a system
What is a Brocken pathway
When something is lose and the wires are Brocken and the gate is closed
What are the materials that conduct electricity
Copper wire
Why do we use copper and not gold and silver
Copper is cheaper and conducts electricity well
Gold and silver are expensive
Why not aliminium
It is cheaper but does not conduct electricity well
What does insulator mean
A material that does not allow heat/electricity to flow through it
What is live wire
Wire with electricity running through it
What are the dangers of live wire
People get badly burnt or socked and die
What are some eg. Of insulators
Glass wood rubber and ceramic and plastic
Give eg. Of insulated things
Glass insulators Plastic boerd Ceramic insulators Rubber gloves Porcelain spark plugs Plastic covered adapt ours. Plastic coverd pliers glass cover
What is the difference between non and renewable sources
Non- takes millions of years to come back
Ren- will not run out and are free to use
How does a wind turbine work
Huge blades called wind turbines use the energy of the wind and convert it to electricity.when there are many of these wind turbines placed together on a piece of land it’s called a wind far when the wind blows it turns the huge blades.these blades then turn the turbines the turbines then give energy to machines called generators, which generate electricity
Give eg. Of renewable sources
Sun wind water
And non
Coal oil natural gas
What are the 6 steps of hydro electric power
- water runs into a dam
- water flows through big wheels (turbine) In the dam wall
- the water turns the wheels
- the wheels give energy to a machine called generators, which produce electricity
- the electricity runs through power lines into our homes
- The water then floss into the sea and then returns to the mountains by the water cycle
What is a solar panel
A device that uses energy from the sun
Describe a solar panel
It collects the energy from the sun and trancefers the energy from the sun into electricity or heat.this energy is then sent to our homes through conduction wires.
