electricity Flashcards
what is current? I
a measure of the flow of electrons around a circuit
what is current measured in?
Amps A
what is potential difference? V
force driving the flow of electrons.
what is potential difference measured in?
volts V
what is resistance? R
the opposition to the flow of current
what is resistance measured in?
Ohms
What does a diode do?
only allows current to flow in one direction
what is charge? Q
measure of the amount of current that flowed within a certain time period
what is charge measured in?
coulombs C
what do fuses do?
they break when too much current passes through them
what way does current flow?
positive to negative
what happens with potential difference in a series circuit?
The potential difference of the power supply is shared between the components.
what happens with current in a series circuit?
stays the same everywhere
what happens with potential difference in a parallel circuit?
it remains the same everywhere throughout the circuit.
what happens with current in a parallel circuit?
it is shared out between components.
