Electricity Flashcards
resistance in a wire
as length of wire increases, resistance also increases
series and parallel circuits with resistors
adding resistors in series increases total resistance of the circuit, in a parallel circuit the more resistors you add the smaller the resistance
Static
a build up caused by friction. when materials rub off one another, electrons move from material to the other. one material becomes positively charged and one becomes negatively charged
why can static cause a spark
when the potential difference is large enough, the electrons can jump across the gap causing a spark.
Force in an electric field
electric charges create an electric field, the closer you get to an object the stronger the field. if a charged object is placed near the field, it will experience a force, which increases with closer distance
ohmic conductor
current is directly proportional to potential difference-straight line
filament lamp
as current increases, so does the temp, making it harder for the current to flow-graph becomes less steep
diode
current only flows in one direction, the resistance is very high in the other direction so no current can flow.
LDR
light dependent resistor (in bright light resistance falls, in dim light resistance increases)
thermistor
temperature dependent resistor (in heat resistance decreases)
