Electricity Flashcards
What is current?
The rate of flow of charge.
What is potential difference?
The work done (energy transferred) per unit charge across a component.
What is the effect on a circuit after adding a component…. In series.
Overall total resistance will increase, therefore current will decrease as it has to pass through all components.
What is the effect on adding a component to a circuit in parallel?
Overall total resistance will decrease, therefore current will increase as it will go through the component with the lease amount of resistance as there is now a pathway.
Equation for current…
I=Q/t
I is measured in Amps
Q is measured in C
T is measured in seconds
Equation for potential difference….
V=E/Q
What is Ohms Law???
The p.d across a metallic conductor is directly proportional to the current going through it. This is true as long as the physical conditions do not change i.e. temperature.
What is resistance?
The voltage required to produce a unit of charge.
Equation for Ohms Law..
V=IR
V= Potential difference (V)
I= Current (A)
R= Resistance (Ohms)
