Electricity Flashcards
What is a conductor?
Conductors are materials which allow electrical current to flow. This is due to the large amount of free electrons which act as the charge carries and can move freely within the material.
What is an insulator
Insulators are material which do not allow electrical current to flow due to not having many free electrons.
What is a series circuit?
A series circuit is a circuit where the current is the same everywhere.
What is a parallel circuit?
The current in a parallel circuit splits at a junction.
How do you use a voltmeter
Put it across the component
What does the current do in a parallel circuit
It splits between components
How do you measure a current
With an ammeter
How do you measure voltage?
Voltmeter
What happens to the voltage in a parallel circuit?
It is the same everywhere
What happens to voltage in series circuit?
It splits up between the components
What does a resistor do?
Reduce the size of the current
What happens to the current in a series circuit
It stays the same
Where does the ammeter go?
In the circuit it can go anywhere
How many volts is a cell worth?
1.5V
What is the current
The rate of flow
